STATEMENT My paintings represent moments in time, fragments of individuals’ experiences, and one of many personas and moods that make up their identities. I like that a person can look very different from moment to moment as circumstances change. For me the allure of figurative work and portraiture is in the search for subtle, physical expressions of the psyche. To create a likeness, I need to get beyond outer appearances, care about the subjects, and want to understand something about them. Painting substantiates my endless curiosity about people – who they are, where they've been, what they might be thinking, and why.
